Be prepared for winter weather

As we head into the winter months, it’s important to be prepared.

Make sure you talk with your supervisor about your Plan B designation on days when the university alters its operations. The three possible designations are:

  • Designated employee: Regular on-site attendance is required when Plan B operations are in effect.
  • Designated employee via remote access: Employee may work remotely during Plan B operations.
  • Non-designated employee: Employee should not work unless specifically contacted by a supervisor and asked to do so.

In general, employees who work remotely at any point during a normal work week, including those work work a hybrid schedule, are designated via remote access. So, if the university is closed due to winter weather, the employee works remotely that day, regardless of whether it was a scheduled on-site or remote day.

You should also sign up to receive UK Alert. You can log into myUK and click the UK Alert tab under the UK Accounts and Services section of Employee Self Service to update your preferences.

You can also view our Walk Safe page to see which routes are cleared first during winter weather and view other trips on safely navigating campus.

Help us develop recommendations based on our UK@Work survey results

As mentioned at June’s division update meeting, we are seeking team members to develop recommendations on how we might continue to improve in the categories of stress, balance, and workload; retention; and innovation. Workgroup members will likely spend one to two hours per week working to develop the recommendations beginning in late July. Each workgroup will vary, but it’s expected that work will conclude for all three by the end of August.

We are also seeking chairs for each of the workgroups. Please submit your interest as either a workgroup member or chair by completing this form by July 25.

Members of the workgroup can expect support from HR administration in meeting scheduling/location, briefing on engagement survey results and focus group insights, answers to questions on budget limitation and business process, access to suggested action items from employee engagement experts, as well as action items suggested during the focus group process.

Additionally, chairs will be supported through biweekly meeting of the chairs with the AVP HR Operation and other subject matter experts as requested.

The expectation of each workgroup is to develop two to four action items, within the scope of HR’s authority, resource and capabilities, that will support ongoing improvement in the assigned category.
